In our humble opinion Wind Turbines are all but miraculous. Of course there are some systems on the market which simply do not "cut the mustard" so to speak, but the very idea of harvesting energy from thin air, truly is wonderful.
what are wind turbines ?
Wind turbines in general are a form of electric alternator or dynamo with blades such as an aeroplanes propeller, which are forced through air pressure to rotate the generator so creating an electrical charge.
differing designs
There are two principal designs vertical as in the above image or horizontal. Horizontal systems have a much larger surface area and therefore higher potential efficiency, though they are equally much more expensive and subject to dammage if not complete destruction in high winds and their longevity between extensive maintenance is greatly reduced because of far higher forces on the bearings.
Turbines also come in a myriad of sizes and though we concentrate on the small to medium market of between 200 and 20,000 Watt Units, the larger Farm Turbines are often rated at 50 Megawatts and above.
